Before Speech: Cerebral Voice Processing in Infants
In this issue of Neuron, Grossmann et al. provide the first evidence of voice-sensitive regions in the brain of 7-month-old, but not 4-month-old, infants. We discuss the implications of these findings for our understanding of cerebral voice processing in the first months of life.
متن کاملCerebral specialization for speech and non-speech stimuli in infants.
Early cerebral specialization and lateralization for auditory processing in 4-month-old infants was studied by recording high-density evoked potentials to acoustical and phonetic changes in a series of repeated stimuli (either tones or syllables). Mismatch responses to these stimuli exhibit a distinct topography suggesting that different neural networks within the temporal lobe are involved in ...
متن کاملA Study on Recovery in Voice Analysis through Vocal Changes before and After Speech Using Speech Signal Processing
Generally speaking, the lecturers have a very large voice and a voice with a high vocal tone. In this study, we propose a new method to perform a vocal massage by placing a reflective cup on the mouth in order to make the hoarse voice normal. We learned about the sound characteristics of hoarse voices and suggested a way to cope with them. When applying the method of removing hoarseness after l...
متن کاملLearning-induced changes in the cerebral processing of voice identity.
Temporal voice areas showing a larger activity for vocal than non-vocal sounds have been identified along the superior temporal sulcus (STS); more voice-sensitive areas have been described in frontal and parietal lobes. Yet, the role of voice-sensitive regions in representing voice identity remains unclear. Using a functional magnetic resonance adaptation design, we aimed at disentangling acous...
متن کاملThe Analysis of Voice Quality in Speech Processing
Voice quality has been defined as the characteristic auditory colouring of an individual's voice, derived from a variety of laryngeal and supralaryngeal features and running continuously through the individual's speech. The distinctive tone of speech sounds produced by a particular person yields a particular voice. Voice quality is at the centre of several speech processing issues. In speech re...
